Week #37 – Granite Skywalk – Porongorup Range

Yesterday afternoon I was privileged to head out to the Porongorup Range with fellow photographer extraordinaire, Stewart Allen.  Stewart works at the Sunday Times newspaper as a press photographer and also runs The Beachcomber’s Journal, a page dedicated to his love of photography and the ocean.  We started our walk late so we set off up the trail at a cracking pace, arriving only a few minutes before sunset.  This was my first time up on the Skywalk and it’s a fantastic experience.  Scrambling up the rocks using the hand and footholds provided, a ladder takes you to the top of Castle Rock and the suspended lookout where you can walk out over the trees where amazing views await.  The walk to the lookout is a 3km return journey.  If you walk late in the afternoon like we did, make sure you pack a good torch.  The path is very rocky.   The Skywalk is, in my opinion, a must-see attraction in the area.  The Porongorup Range is only 40 minutes from Albany so, if you don’t have plans this weekend, put it on your To Do list.
